Strong Middle Mile Powers a Steady 5K Finish Brent Opheim completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 32:24, finishing 844th overall out of the field of 2,677 and 490th among men. Opheim's race built momentum through the middle mile before settling in. His opening mile came in at 10:33, then he surged to an 8:58 second mile his fastest of the race before easing to an 11:51 close. That second-mile push moved him up markedly in the standings at the time, showing his strongest running of the day came in the race's middle stretch. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Opheim's overall pace of 10:27 min/mile reflects a race shaped by that one strong surge. Finishing on the Pearl Street Mall, he capped the day in downtown Boulder, a city recognized as the Happiest City in America.
