Steady Pace Punctuated by a Fifth-Mile Surge Chris Aunan covered the 10K in 43:21, an average pace of 6:59 per mile. The first four miles ticked by with remarkable consistency, each between 6:54 and 6:59, before a strong fifth mile at 6:20 pushed his cumulative pace to its quickest point of the race. The final mile eased to 7:48, a natural settling after that surge, and he crossed the finish line in downtown Boulder on the Pearl Street Mall. That mid-race burst stands out as the highlight of the effort, dropping his overall pace below 6:50 per mile at the 5-mile mark. Maintaining that kind of consistency through the opening miles at altitude, with Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet, speaks well to his pacing discipline. A touch more left in reserve for the closing mile could be a small opportunity to explore next time out.
