Strong Start Fades Over Final Mile at Boulderthon 5K Joshep Gutierrez crossed the finish line of the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 29:06, an overall pace of 9:23 per mile. Racing in the men's 25-29 division out of Commerce City, Colorado, Gutierrez opened with his sharpest running of the day, covering the first mile in 8:14 before easing to 8:29 for the second. The final mile slowed considerably, closing in 11:22 as the pace evened out to finish. The opening mile stands as the clear highlight, run at a pace nearly a minute faster than his eventual overall average. Boulder's elevation, sitting above 5,000 feet, adds context to that early tempo and the fade that followed. With a strong front half already banked, Gutierrez has a clear template: carrying more of that early rhythm into the closing mile could shave meaningful time off his next 5K result.
