Strong Closing Miles Power a Top-10% Finish Christopher Mata finished the half marathon in 1:40:36, placing 385th overall and 306th among men out of the field of 7,223. His race settled into a steady rhythm through the middle miles, holding between 7:30 and 7:45 pace before easing slightly to the high 7:50s and low 8:00s around miles 6 through 9. He then rebuilt momentum through the back half, closing miles 12 and 13 at 7:16 and 7:13, the fastest full-mile pace of his race, to bring his overall average down to 7:40 per mile by the finish. That final surge came as the course made its way toward the Pearl Street Mall finish in downtown Boulder, a strong way to cap a race run above 5,000 feet of elevation.
