Steady Effort Peaks with a Strong Middle Mile Karen Cuffee finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 1:01:03. Her pace shifted across the race: after an opening mile of 19:42, she picked up significantly in the second mile, covering it in 17:43, before easing back to 21:36 over the final mile to the finish on the Pearl Street Mall. That second mile stood out as her fastest stretch of the day, a solid surge in the middle of the course. Running at Boulder's elevation of over 5,000 feet, Cuffee's ability to find a faster gear mid-race is a good sign of strength she might consider working on sustaining that pace a bit longer next time to carry that momentum into the closing mile.
