Fast Start Fuels a Strong Field Finish Joshua Hellmann crossed the line in 51:36 for the 10K, placing 215th overall and 147th among men in a field of 3,071. His race went out hard, with an opening mile of 5:37, well clear of his eventual overall pace, before settling into the high 7:00s and 8:00s through the middle miles. That early surge built a cushion that carried him through a natural fade over the second half of the course, capped by a 10:18 final mile. The opening mile stands out as his strongest stretch by far, and given the elevation in Boulder sitting above 5,000 feet that early pace was an ambitious way to start. Settling into a steadier rhythm through the middle miles could help preserve more of that early speed over the closing stretch next time.
