Fast Start Fuels Top-10 5K Finish Tom Oates crossed the line in 14:51, placing 9th overall and 9th among men in the 2026 Boulderthon 5K. Oates opened with a strong first mile at 4:43, then surged to his fastest mile of the race, a 4:17 second mile, pulling his cumulative pace down to 4:29 min/mile. The final mile eased to 5:35, closing out the race with an overall pace of 4:47 min/mile. That early surge through miles one and two stands out as the strongest stretch of his race. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Oates turned in a well-paced effort, with his quick middle mile setting up a solid finish.
