Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Hayley Knierim #40922 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 5K Distance: 3.1 miles

A Strong Middle Mile Powers a Solid 5K Hayley Knierim finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 27:00, an 8:42 min/mile pace across the course in downtown Boulder. Her race built momentum through the middle before settling in for the final stretch. After an opening mile of 9:19, Knierim surged to a 7:34 second mile, her fastest of the day, before closing with a 9:11 third mile. That middle-mile effort stood out against the rest of her race and reflects well on her pacing instincts at altitudeBoulder sits above 5,000 feet, adding a layer of difficulty to any strong push. A touch more evenness between miles one and three could help her carry that mid-race speed all the way to the finish next time.
