Strong Early Pace Fuels Top 10% Finish Despite Late Fade Alan Folsom finished the half marathon in 1:47:40 (8:13/mile), placing 651st overall and 482nd among men out of the field of 7,223. That result lands in the top 10 percent of the field. Folsom's race began fast, covering the first six miles in 43:25 a 7:14/mile pace putting him well inside the top 250 overall at that point. The middle miles brought a steady slowdown, with mile splits stretching past 9:00 through miles 9 through 12, before he closed with a stronger 8:57 final mile. That early six-mile stretch stands as the strongest sustained running of his day. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Folsom capped his effort with a finish on the historic Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder.
