His race built through a clear middle-mile surge: an opening 10:50 gave way to a brisk 9:02 second mile, before easing back to 11:07 over the closing stretch. That middle mile stood out as the fastest of his day, pulling his cumulative pace from 10:50 to 9:55 min/mile before settling at a 10:21 min/mile average pace at the finish. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, O'Malley's pacing shows room to build a more even effort across all three miles.
