Slow Start Gives Way to a Strong Finishing Kick Chase Muilenburg completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 28:29. After an opening mile of 10:10, he sped up considerably, covering the second mile in 8:27 and the third in 8:54, pulling his overall pace down to 9:09 min/mile by the finish. That second mile was his fastest of the race, showing a strong ability to accelerate once he found his rhythm. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Chase turned a sluggish start into a race defined by improvement, closing nearly two minutes per mile faster than he began. If he can carry that finishing strength further back into the race, an even stronger overall time could be within reach next time out.
