Strong Late Surge Powers a Top-10% Finish Josie Demmo covered the half marathon in 1:44:32, finishing 515th overall and 119th among women in a field of 7,223. Her race built steadily: after an opening mile at 8:40, she settled into a consistent 8:05-8:20 per-mile rhythm through the middle miles before dropping her pace notably over the final stretch. Miles 11 through 13 were her standout segment, clicking off in 7:47, 7:16 and 7:03 a sharp acceleration that pulled her overall elapsed pace down to 7:59 min/mile by the finish, making the closing miles the fastest of her race. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, Demmo closed strong on the historic Pearl Street Mall. With such a clear final-miles kick already in hand, she might consider experimenting with a slightly faster middle third to see how it affects her overall time in future races.
