Steady Start Fuels a Strong Middle Mile Salma Ortiz finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 31:34, part of a field of 2,677 in downtown Boulder. Ortiz opened with a 9:53 first mile before picking up the pace to 9:00 for mile two, her fastest stretch of the race. The final mile slowed to 11:45, tempering her overall pace to 10:11 min/mile. With the race set at over 5,000 feet of elevation, that middle-mile surge stands out as the highlight of her run. Ortiz might consider working on maintaining that mile-two rhythm through the finish in future 5Ks.
