Strong Start Fuels a Top-Finish Sprint Through Boulder Edgar Mendez crossed the finish line in 19:42, placing 69th overall and 54th among men in the 5K, out of a field of 2,677. He finished sixth in the Men's 40-44 division. Mendez opened with a swift 5:59 opening mile, the fastest stretch of his race, before easing to 6:17 in the second mile and 6:52 over the closing mile. That first mile pace, nearly 25 seconds quicker than his overall average, set a firm foundation for a solid overall time. Finishing on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation, Mendez can take pride in a well-managed effort with room to explore a more even pacing strategy in future 5Ks if he wants to chase an even faster time.
