Strong Start Fades Over Final Mile John Rekoumis finished the 5K in 31:12, an overall pace of 10:04 per mile, placing 436th among men in a field of 2,677. Rekoumis built an early cushion, covering the first mile in 9:23 and the second in 9:09, pushing his cumulative pace to 9:16 per mile through two miles the fastest stretch of his race. The closing mile slowed to an 11:45 split, pulling his overall pace back to 10:04 by the finish. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, holding that early tempo for two miles before the late fade is a pattern worth revisiting perhaps saving a touch more for the final stretch next time.
