Strong Middle Mile Powers a Solid 5K Finish Stephanie Prufer covered the Boulderthon 5K in 28:29, finishing 442nd overall among the field of 2,677 and 130th among women. Her race built through a strong second mile, dropping to 8:05 after opening in 9:22, before easing back to 9:51 over the final stretch to the Pearl Street Mall. That middle mile was her fastest of the day and pulled her overall pace under 9:00/mile at the two-mile mark, a gain she held onto through the finish. Running at over 5,000 feet of elevation, Prufer's pacing reflects a race that started strong and adjusted through the closing mile rather than fading outright. With her front-loaded speed already showing in that second-mile surge, a steadier effort in the final third could help her carry more of that pace to the line next time.
