Fast Middle Mile Fuels Solid 5K Finish Kelvin Valdez completed the 5K in 23:48, an overall pace of 7:40 per mile. His race shape showed a strong surge in the middle: after opening in 7:37, he dropped to 6:31 for mile twohis fastest mile of the daybefore easing to 8:94 pace over the closing mile as the finish approached. That middle-mile burst was the clear highlight of his race, showing a well-timed gear change. Racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet adds context to that effort. He capped things off with a finish on the historic Pearl Street Mall, a fitting downtown close to a race built on a strong second-mile push.
