Age-Group Win Fueled by a Blistering Opening 5K Pace Ed Mahoney claimed the win in the M60-64 division at the 2026 Boulderthon 5K, crossing in 23:34 (7:36/mile), good for 172nd overall and 134th among men in a field of 2,677. Mahoney's race showed a strong front-loaded shape: he covered the first two miles in 13:50, averaging 6:55/mile, before easing to an 8:38 final mile as he closed out the course. That opening two-mile stretch stands as the highlight of his race, a pace he held while racing at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet. The steady early pace built a cushion that carried him to the age-group title, capping a performance defined by early speed and a controlled finish through downtown Boulder.
