Sharp Pace Drop Shaves Over a Minute Off Prior 5K Aaron Mendez finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 18:10, placing 42nd overall and 33rd among men out of the field of 2,677. That result marks a clear improvement over his 2025 Boulderthon 5K, where he ran 19:35 a gain of 1 minute 25 seconds this year. Mendez opened with a 5:32 first mile, then quickened to 5:23 for the second his fastest mile of the day before easing to 6:31 over the closing stretch. That second-mile surge was the standout segment, showing his strongest sustained effort before the finish. Running through Boulder, which sits at over 5,000 feet of elevation, Mendez turned in a performance that built on last year's pace with room to refine that final mile if he chooses to negative split next time.
