Strong Start Fuels a Steady Half-Marathon Finish Brooke Swanson completed the half marathon in 2:23:38, averaging 10:57 per mile across the 13.1-mile course. Swanson's race built momentum early, dropping from a 10:39 opening mile to a race-best 9:47 by mile five. Miles three through five stood out as her strongest stretch, covering three miles in 29:42 for a 9:54 average pace. The back half brought a gradual fade, with per-mile splits climbing into the 11- and 12-minute range before she steadied to close in 11:11 for the final mile. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, that early surge through the middle miles reflects well on her pacing instincts, and there's room to experiment with holding that rhythm a bit longer in a future race.
