Steady Pace, Strong Finish at 6:45/Mile Drew Birnbaum crossed the half marathon in 1:28:36, good for 119th overall and 103rd among men in a field of 7,223. His overall pace of 6:45 per mile reflected a tightly controlled effort from start to finish. Birnbaum's mile splits stayed remarkably consistent through the race, hovering between 6:33 and 6:55 for the first eleven miles. He found another gear late, clocking a 6:23 mile 12 his fastest full mile of the race before easing into the finish along the Pearl Street Mall. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet, this even pacing strategy paid off with a strong closing kick.
