Strong Middle Mile Anchors Steady 5K Effort Thomas Coons finished his 5K in 37:55. His pace moved from 12:29 in the first mile to a much quicker 10:46 in the second, before easing back to 13:38 over the closing mile to the finish. That second mile stood out as the fastest stretch of his race, a solid surge in the middle of the course. Running at Boulder's altitude of over a mile high adds its own demand to any effort, and Coons' pacing pattern showed he had another gear to call on mid-race. Building a bit more strength to carry that middle-mile pace into the final stretch could be a worthwhile focus for next time.
