Strong Start Fades Late in the 5K Lindsey Samelson finished the 5K in 27:58, an overall pace of 9:01 per mile. She opened with a solid first mile at 8:02, held steady through the second at 8:13 for a cumulative pace of 8:07, then slowed notably over the final mile, adding nearly two and a half minutes to post a 10:34 split. Running at altitude in Boulder, which sits above 5,000 feet, Samelson's opening two miles were the clear highlight of her race, covering that stretch at a pace under 8:10 per mile. With that early rhythm already established, a touch more evenness across the final mile could help her carry that pace through to the finish next time.
