Strong Middle Mile Fuels Solid 5K Finish Andrew Pettus completed the 5K in 25:08, an 8:06 min/mile pace, out of a field of 2,677 entrants. His race built steadily: an 8:05 opening mile gave way to a sharp 6:58 second mile before settling into an 8:58 close, showing a pattern of finding rhythm mid-race before easing off late. That second mile stands out as the highlight of the run, nearly a minute faster than his other two splits. Running at Boulder's elevation of over 5,000 feet, Pettus's ability to hit that pace mid-race reflects strong control. Locking in that effort earlier or sustaining it longer could help even out the overall pacing next time.
