Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Doug Velick #40703 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 5K Distance: 3.1 miles
Strong Middle Mile Fuels Steady 5K Finish Doug Velick, 61, of Superior, CO, completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 32:28. His race unfolded in three distinct phases: an opening mile of 10:13, a strong surge to 8:52 in the second mile, and a final mile that eased to 12:05 as he closed out the course. That second mile stood as the highlight of the race, a clear jump in pace from both the opening and closing stretches. The finish came on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, a fitting close to a race run at over 5,000 feet of elevation. Velick might look to carry that middle-mile strength deeper into the final stretch in future 5Ks.
