Strong Middle Mile Fuels a Steady 5K Finish Melissa Stevens covered the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 28:33. Her race built momentum through the middle mile, dropping from a 10:15 opening mile to a brisk 7:56 second mile before settling to 9:22 over the closing stretch. That second mile stood out as her fastest of the race, showing a strong surge in the race's middle third after a cautious start. Running the 5K at Boulder's elevation of over 5,000 feet, Stevens finished with an overall pace of 9:12 per mile. Her split pattern suggests room to find a more even effort across all three miles starting closer to her strong middle-mile pace could yield an even faster overall time next time out.
