Strong Middle Mile Fuels a Solid 5K Finish Maxwell Matys-Gleason completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 29:23. The race opened with a 9:53 first mile before a sharp pickup to 8:07 through mile two, then eased to 10:22 over the closing stretch to the Pearl Street Mall finish. That second mile stood out as the fastest of the race, a notable surge that pulled his overall pace down to 9:00 min/mile at the two-mile mark. Given that push, he might look at ways to hold more of that speed into the final mile next time out. Boulder's elevation, over 5,000 feet, adds a layer of difficulty to any pacing strategy on this course.
