Date: Sept. 27, 2026 Participant: Francisco Pena #41407 Race: 2026 Boulderthon 5K Distance: 3.1 miles
Strong Start Fades Late in the 5K Francisco Pena finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 30:09. He opened briskly, covering the first mile in 8:42, then held nearly identical form through mile two (8:50), reaching two miles in 17:32. The final mile slowed to 11:32, pulling his overall pace to 9:43 per mile by the finish. Racing at altitude in Boulder, which sits above 5,000 feet, Pena's early miles were his sharpest work of the day. Holding that opening rhythm a bit longer into the final stretch could help even out the closing pace next time.
