Strong Start Fades Late in the Final Mile Kian Smith completed the 5K at the 2026 Boulderthon in 31:08, an overall pace of 10:02 per mile. Smith finished 88th in the Men's 20-24 division. Smith's race began briskly, covering the first mile in 9:15 before accelerating to a strong 8:28 in the second mile the fastest mile of his race. The final mile slowed to 12:15, pulling his overall pace back to 9:59 through three miles before the finish. Given that Boulder sits at over 5,000 feet of elevation, Smith's early pace showed real strength; building a touch more evenly across the final stretch could help him carry that mile-two speed all the way to the line next time.
