Blistering Second Mile Powers Podium 5K Finish Habtamu Chale Worku crossed the line in 14:11, good for third overall and third among men in a field of 2,677 also third in his age division. That's a strong result at any altitude, let alone Boulder's, which sits above 5,000 feet. The race unfolded in three distinct phases: a quick opening mile at 4:28, a blistering second mile covering 3:57 the fastest stretch of his race before a final mile that settled to 5:26 as the effort caught up with him. That surge through the middle mile built the cushion that carried him to the finish. Holding a touch more of that second-mile speed into the closing stretch could be worth exploring next time out, though the overall pacing produced a podium result on the day.
