Strong Start Fades Late in the 5K Cole Spencer covered the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 25:43, an 8:17 min/mile pace. His first two miles were the strongest stretch of the race, opening in 7:21 and 7:24 for a cumulative pace of 7:24 min/mile through the halfway point a swift clip that put him well inside the top 10% of the field at that stage. The final mile slowed the overall pace considerably, closing out the race at the 8:17 min/mile mark. Running at Boulder's altitude of over 5,000 feet adds a layer of difficulty to any pace, and Spencer's early miles showed he could handle that demand well. Going forward, working on sustaining that opening rhythm through the final mile could help him close races as strongly as he starts them.
