Strong Start Fuels Top 5% 5K Finish Mauricio Alvear crossed the line in 22:00, placing 114th overall and 88th among men in the 2026 Boulderthon 5K, a result that lands in the top 5% of the field. His race unfolded with an aggressive middle mile: after opening in 7:08, Alvear surged to a 6:00 second mile, his fastest stretch of the race, before settling into an 8:06 close to the finish. That early move built a cushion that carried him to a strong final placement, with his pace over the first two miles sitting well ahead of his overall 7:05 min/mile average. Running at altitude in Boulder, sitting above 5,000 feet, Alvear's ability to bank time in the middle mile stands out as the defining segment of his effort.
