Strong Middle Mile Powers Solid 5K Finish Nathan Ulrich, 21, of Boulder, completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 29:32, an average pace of 9:31 per mile. He opened with a 9:07 first mile, then surged to his fastest mile of the race at 8:20, before easing to an 11:08 close over the final stretch into the Pearl Street Mall. That second mile stood out as the clear high point of Ulrich's race, showing a strong ability to build speed once warmed up. The finish, run at Boulder's altitude of over a mile high, reflects the tougher demands of racing at elevation. Going forward, Ulrich might look at ways to carry that strong second-mile rhythm through to the finish for an even more consistent overall pace.
