Strong Middle Mile Anchors a Steady 5K Parissa Reynolds crossed the line in 30:22, covering the 5K at a 9:47/mile pace through Boulder, which sits above 5,000 feet of elevation. Her race built in the middle: an opening mile of 10:15 gave way to a sharp drop to 8:23 for mile two, her fastest of the day, before easing back to 10:40 to close. That middle-mile surge marked the clear high point of her effort, with the final stretch settling into a more moderate rhythm to the finish. Her 2025 Boulderthon appearance came over the 10K distance, finishing in 1:04:54 at a 10:28/mile pace a different test than this year's 5K, but a similar pattern of finding a groove mid-race. The 2026 effort suggests that once she settles in, a faster gear is available; carrying that middle-mile pace deeper into the race could be worth exploring next time out.
