Strong Start Fades Late in the Final Mile Logan Nielson completed the 5K in 24:45, an average pace of 7:59 per mile, finishing 229th overall among the field of 2,677 in the 2026 Boulderthon. Nielson's race showed a clear shape: he opened with two brisk miles, covering the first two miles in 13:57 a 6:59-per-mile pace before the final stretch slowed to a 10:03 split. That early pace stood as the standout stretch of his race, showing strong control through the race's midpoint before the finish took more out of him. Running at altitude in Boulder, over 5,000 feet above sea level, adds a layer of difficulty to maintaining that early tempo. Considering that context, Nielson might look to distribute his effort more evenly in future races to preserve his strong opening pace all the way to the line.
