Steady Build to a Fast Final Mile Grant Betner completed the half marathon in 1:36:53, a pace of 7:23 per mile. That marks a significant jump from his 2025 Boulderthon marathon, where he averaged 8:18 per mile over 26.2 miles a full minute per mile faster this time out. His race built steadily rather than fading: after settling into the high-7:00s through the middle miles, Betner surged over the closing stretch, capping things off with a 6:31 final mile, his fastest of the day. That kind of finish lined up well with the half's run toward the Pearl Street Mall, where the new course design trimmed net elevation gain nearly in half from last year's layout. Betner's ability to negative-split the back half suggests strong pacing discipline and a runner still finding another gear late in the race.
