Strong Start, Stronger Finish Matt Goeckel ran 1:18:00 to finish 29th overall and 26th among men in the half marathon, averaging 5:57 per mile. Goeckel opened fast, covering the first mile in 5:38 and holding between 5:47 and 5:58 through the ninth mile. A dip followed near the Power-Up Zone around mile 9.5, with a 6:13 split at mile 8 and a 6:26 mile 10, before he rallied over the closing miles. His final mile, run in 5:45, was his fastest since the opening mile and closed the race on a strong note. The half marathon route heads out past Boulder Reservoir and Boulder County backroads before finishing on the Pearl Street Mall, all at over 5,000 feet of elevation.
