Fast Start Fuels Top-25 Finish in Boulder 5K Biruktayit Degefa finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 16:36, placing 22nd overall out of the field and 4th among women. Degefa's opening mile was her quickest of the race at 4:52, and she pushed even harder through the second, covering it in 4:26 a pace of 4:38 per mile through two miles. The final mile slowed to 6:51, tempering her overall pace to 5:21 per mile, but the early speed carried her to a strong result. Racing through downtown Boulder, sitting above 5,000 feet of elevation, Degefa's front-loaded effort reflects a runner willing to bank time early. A more even split in the closing mile could offer an even faster overall time in a future outing.
