Strong Opening Miles Fade Late in the 5K Claudia Medina covered the 5K in 32:31. Her opening mile came in at 9:44, followed by an even faster 9:37 in mile two the fastest mile of her race. The closing mile slowed to 12:09, pulling her overall pace back to 10:29 per mile by the finish. Racing at altitude in Boulder, sitting above 5,000 feet, Medina's first two miles showed strong, controlled pacing before the effort caught up with her late in the course. Working on sustaining that early rhythm through the final stretch could help her carry that same pace to the finish line next time.
