Strong Start Fuels Top Finish in Boulder 5K Derek Wilke, 48, of Boulder, CO, finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 21:28, placing 105th overall and 80th among men, out of a field of 2,677, while taking third in the men's 45-49 division. Wilke's race showed a fast opening: he covered his first mile in 6:45, then surged to a 6:00 second mile, his quickest stretch of the race. His pace eased over the final mile to 8:03, closing with a 6:55 overall pace. Given Boulder's elevation of over 5,000 feet, his early tempo stands out as the highlight of a well-executed effort. With his strong middle mile as a springboard, Wilke might look to sustain that pace a touch longer next time to close even stronger.
