Strong Start Fades Late in the 5K Leon Arellano finished the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 31:43, averaging 10:14 per mile. He covered the opening mile in 9:00 and held that pace through mile two, reaching 18:02 with a split of 9:02. The final mile slowed considerably to 12:27, pulling his overall pace back and shaping the back half of his race. Boulder's elevation, sitting above 5,000 feet, adds a layer of difficulty to any race pace, and Arellano's early miles showed strong footing before the late slowdown. With a solid front-half foundation already in place, a touch more evenly distributed effort across the final mile could help him close 5Ks with the same strength he starts them.
