Steady Pace Carries Marathoner Into Top 15 Overall Ian Sharman finished the marathon in 2:59:34, placing 12th overall and 10th among men in a field of 3,305. Miles 1-7 clicked off between 6:14 and 6:49, and he never strayed far off that rhythm, holding an elapsed pace inside a tight 6:38-6:51 window from mile 8 through the finish. His strongest stretch came from miles 9 through 13, five straight miles between 6:26 and 7:02 that kept his cumulative pace under 6:41. Late miles drifted slightly, with 21 and 22 at 7:26 and 7:36, before he closed with three straight sub-7:10 miles to the Pearl Street Mall finish. Given Boulder's elevation above 5,000 feet, that closing surge stands out as a strong finish under demanding conditions.
