Fast Start Fuels a Determined Finish Kristy Durso completed the 5K in 35:27, an 11:26 min/mile overall pace. Her race opened with a strong first mile at 6:40, but the pace slowed considerably over the next two miles, with mile two covered in 9:46 and mile three in 17:14, bringing her cumulative time to 33:39 before the final stretch to the line. That opening mile stood out as the fastest stretch of her race by a wide margin, showing an ability to move quickly early before the effort eased in the miles that followed. Finishing on the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder, Durso capped her 5K at an elevation over 5,000 feet, a notable backdrop for the morning's effort.
