Strong Start Fuels a Top-50 Finish Lanni Marchant crossed the line in 18:20, good for 45th overall and 8th among women in a field of 2,677. That result places her firmly among the day's fastest competitors. Her race built quickly, with a 5:42 opening mile followed by a sharp drop to 5:20 for mile two the fastest mile of her race and the stretch where she made her biggest move through the field. The final mile eased to 6:36 as she closed out the 5K, still finishing with a strong overall pace of 5:55 per mile. Racing at Boulder's altitude above 5,000 feet, Marchant's even-effort approach through two miles before the late fade speaks well of her pacing instincts a slightly more conservative middle mile could help her hold that early speed all the way home next time.
