Negative-Split Push Carries Marathon Home Hayden Krueger closed in 4:12:25, an overall pace of 9:38 per mile. The race opened in the high 9:00s through the first tough climbs, drifted into the 9:50-10:30 range through the mid-teens, then tightened steadily from mile 19 onward as the pace dropped back into the low 9:00s, producing a clear negative-split finish over the final 10K. The standout stretch came from mile 19 to mile 23, four miles covered in roughly 9:18, 9:18, 9:38, 9:17 and 8:57 well under his overall average and the fastest sustained running of the day. That surge, delivered above 5,000 feet of altitude in Boulder, set up a strong last mile before the finish on the Pearl Street Mall.
