Fast First Half Gives Way to a Steady Fade Gabrielle Walzel finished the 10K in 1:00:40, an overall pace of 9:47 per mile. Her race opened quickly and cooled steadily: the first two miles clicked by at roughly 8:37 pace, the fastest stretch of her day, before each subsequent mile slowed in turn, closing out near 11:21 for the final split. The cumulative pace crept from the high 8:30s at the halfway point to just under 9:50 by the finish, reflecting that steady late-race decline rather than a single rough patch. Walzel's run played out at over 5,000 feet of elevation in Boulder, a factor worth noting for any runner tackling paces at altitude.
