The race opened strongly, with a 4:42 first mile followed by an even quicker 4:32 second mile, pushing the cumulative pace to 4:37 per mile through two miles. The closing mile brought a marked shift in rhythm as the pace eased to 6:55, settling the overall effort at 6:05 per mile for the distance. That opening two-mile stretch stands as the highlight of the race, run at a pace well clear of the rest of the field this early. All of this came at over 5,000 feet of elevation in Boulder, adding context to the early pace on display.
