A Fast Middle Mile Powers a Steady 5K Finish Jeroy Rogers completed the 2026 Boulderthon 5K in 31:04. His race unfolded in three distinct phases: an opening mile of 10:30, a sharp drop to 8:23 through the second mile, and a closing mile of 11:29 to the Pearl Street Mall finish. That middle mile stood out as his fastest of the race, pulling his overall pace down to 9:26 per mile at the two-mile mark before it settled back near his starting rhythm by the finish. Running at altitude in Boulder, sitting above 5,000 feet, adds a layer of difficulty to any pace fluctuation like the one Rogers showed here. With that strong second mile now on record, the next step is finding a way to carry more of that pace into the final stretch.
