Strike the Lead: Highs and Lows on the Course Marmalade Brothers from Salt Lake City showcased a solid performance in the 2026 Deseret News Marathon Relay. Opening with a consistent pace of 7:42 min/mile for the first three miles, they quickly moved into the leading position by the fourth mile, clocking an impressive 5:14 split. They maintained first place through the seventh mile with splits under 7:30 min/mile. Notably, they remained first in their division throughout the race. Momentum shifted in the races latter stages. After securing a top position early, a gradual pace increase led to a slowdown with splits reaching 11:57 in the final mile. This resulted in an overall time of 3:38:55 and an average pace of 8:21 min/mile. While they finished 5th overall, Marmalade Brothers secured 1st in the Open Division, a commendable achievement. For future events, they could aim to maintain early race paces in latter miles to enhance their performance further.
