Strong Start and Steady Ascent Austin Huey, 30, from Monument, CO, completed the Pikes Peak Ascent with an impressive elapsed time of 4:27:04 over 13.36 miles. Starting strong, Austin was in a promising 173rd place overall at the beginning. Notably, his pace at Ruxton was brisk at 9:43 min/mile, helping him secure a solid footing early on. As the course progressed and the elevation increased, Austin maintained consistency across the midsections, notably reducing his pace to 15:41 min/mile by the 7.8 Summit. The final miles proved challenging, with the last three splits at significant elevations: Bottomless Pit, A-Frame, and the Finish. These segments saw his pace decelerate to over 20 min/mile. Noteworthy was his steady climb from 697th at A-Frame to 616th overall at the finish, highlighting a resilient effort in the high-altitude segments that characterized the latter stages of the race.
